Continue reading Commissioner LeDoux Reviews Recent Legislative Session Currently, Alaska has 24 charter schools. The state is seeking comments on the draft Alaska Education Plan, which is online at www.eed.state.ak.us. The deadline for comments is midnight Feb. 19. After reviewing the public’s comments, the department will present the draft plan to the State Board of Education & Early Development. The State Board is scheduled to consider approving the Alaska Education Plan at its meeting on March 19-20 in Juneau. New Alaska state regulations take effect on July 1, 2009, in terms of what immunizations all school children are required to have. In brief, all children in public/private schools, certified preschools, and licensed child care facilities will need to be immunized against Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, varicella (chickenpox) and in some cases Haemophilus influenzae type b. |
