Anchorage superintendent Carol Comeau was in Washington, D.C. this week as part of a meeting of rural school district officials.  She met with the education secretary and learned more details about Barack Obama’s stimulus money — especially the large chunk aimed at education.

According to several news sources, Comeau would like to see Gov. Sarah Palin use the lion’s share of that education stimulus money to fund pre-school programs across the state.  The Anchorage Daily News ran an editorial supporting that stance.

Bering Strait School District recently received the Alaska Head Start Association School District Collaboration Award for its outstanding partnership with Head Start pre-school programs in its region.

The award was presented at AHSA’s 15th Annual Leadership Conference in Juneau where leadership training was provided to over 100 parents and staff of Head Start programs across the state.
