Apparently Gov. Sarah Palin will be accepting the federal stimulus funding, including millions of dollars for education, which she had originally said she would not accept.

Alaska House budget now includes money to rebuild Kalskag School

Anchorage superintendent, newspaper pushing for pre-school funding

Anchorage superintendent Carol Comeau was in Washington, D.C. this week as part of a meeting of rural school district officials.  She met with the education secretary and learned more details about Barack Obama’s stimulus money — especially the large chunk aimed at education.

According to several news sources, Comeau would like to see Gov. Sarah Palin use the lion’s share of that education stimulus money to fund pre-school programs across the state.  The Anchorage Daily News ran an editorial supporting that stance.

UA Regents to meet in Juneau

The University of Alaska Board of Regents will gather in Juneau Feb. 17-18, 2009, to consider numerous proposals, including a new graduate certificate in statistics at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, a revision to the master plan for the University of Alaska Anchorage and a resolution supporting creation of the Alaska Native Education and Research Council.

Kodiak teacher appointed to the State Board of Education

Governor Sarah Palin has appointed Janel Keplinger of Kodiak to the State Board of Education & Early Development.

Keplinger will hold a Public-at-Large seat for a term of five years, effective March 1. The seat was formerly held by Sylvia Reynolds.
