Apparently Gov. Sarah Palin will be accepting the federal stimulus funding, including millions of dollars for education, which she had originally said she would not accept.

Alaska Education Earmarks

Earlier this morning, President Barack Obama signed the $410 billion omnibus bill, funding the government’s agencies for another year.

Before he signed it, the president remarked that it was an imperfect bill, mostly because of all of the earmarks put in by various senators and representatives.

UA Regents to meet in Juneau

The University of Alaska Board of Regents will gather in Juneau Feb. 17-18, 2009, to consider numerous proposals, including a new graduate certificate in statistics at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, a revision to the master plan for the University of Alaska Anchorage and a resolution supporting creation of the Alaska Native Education and Research Council.

Capital Project Details

Gov. Palin’s proposed FY10 education budget includes $42.5 million in major building maintenance projects.

FY10 Capital Projects

The Alaska Department of Education decides each year which projects will be included in the capital budget list.  All of the districts submit their 20 or so top priority projects to the department and officials than pick what they consider to be the 20 most pressing projects from across the state.

Here are some details about each project:

The $4.8 million program is zeroed out in the budget the governor sent to legislators to approve.

Gov. Palin’s proposed FY10 education budget

The governor released her proposed FY10 education budget several months ago.  Currently, the Alaska State Legislature is considering the details and will ultimately decide what budget gets approved.

Over the next few days we will be exploring her budget proposal more closely.  But to start, you can take a look at the actual budget memo put out by the governor’s office.
