Alaskans are Among Presidential Scholarship Semifinalists
The U.S. Department of Education has announced 560 semifinalists in the 2009 Presidential Scholars Program. Annually, up to 141 students are selected as Presidential Scholars.
The Alaska semifinalists are: Shelby Fisher of West Anchorage High School, Leif Johnson of Wasilla High School, Christina Knapp of East Anchorage High School, Elizabeth Phillips of West Anchorage High School, Nicholas Waldo of Juneau-Douglas High School, and Stacy Wheeler of West Anchorage High School.
Most students are selected based on broad academic achievement. A few are selected for artistic achievement. See http://www.ed.gov/programs/psp/index.html.
